I am a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Classical Studies. My current research project is "The role of intention in artistic creation: a reassessment of Plato’s Laws and its reception in late Antiquity”. In 2023 I completed my PhD under the supervision of Miguel Tamen, with a thesis entitled “Composite works of art: philosophy of art after Plato and Aristotle” that won the Prof. Francisco Vieira de Almeida Prize for philosophical essay and will be published by the University of Lisbon Press. In 2013, I was granted a research scholarship (Universidade de Lisboa/Fundação Amadeu Dias) with an award-winning project on the metaphysics and aesthetics of Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite. I specialize in ancient philosophy and philosophy of art, and I am particularly interested in late antiquity, the Neoplatonist tradition, and ancient aesthetics and literary criticism. All my published papers and book chapters can be found in https://linktr.ee/TomasNCastro. For further information and full CV, please feel free to email me to Tomas.Castro [at] edu.ulisboa.pt.
