Silvina Pereira completed her PhD in Artistic Studies (Theatre Studies) at the University of Lisbon in 2010 and obtained the highest classification. That year she began a 6-year post-doctoral project, followed by a 2nd post-doc in 2016 on the Teatro clássico português: um repertório a descobrir. Some of these results appeared in a book (Pereira, 2017), revealing the artistic, scientific and theatrical quality of Portuguese Renaissance comedy. Since 2019 she has been a research assistant at ULisboa. Since 2010 she has been an integral member of the Center for Classical Studies (University of Lisbon). In 2013, she coordinated the work group that studied comedy in the area of Classics and European Culture. She is currently working in CEC’s projects WHAT STAGE FOR THE CLASSICS? and PORTUGUESE WOMEN WRITERS. This academic route culminated from an artistic path, as an actress, director and dramaturge. As Artistic Director of Teatro Maizum, she has developed a program of dramatization and staging of literary texts by Portuguese authors from the 16th to 19th centuries, carrying out independent research work, presented in shows and publications of adaptations and scenic versions. The staging of the Comedia Eufrosina (1995), followed by Comedia Ulysippo (1997) by Jorge Ferreira de Vasconcelos (1515? -1585), plays never before presented on stage, served as the starting point for the study of the work of the comediographer, from an academic perspective. This was the beginning of a line of investigation into the Portuguese Renaissance theatre, that has been pursued until the present. Her productions have been integrated into the cultural program of International Meetings, having been filmed for television and cinema, and screened at national and international exhibitions, such as Camões - Tanta Guerra, Tanto Engano on Cinémathèque française in Paris in January 2018. She has proved to be an independent researcher conceptualizing and organizing the V CENTENÁRIO DE JORGE FERREIRA DE VASCONCELOS, a multidisciplinary program composed of 6 activities: a Portuguese Renaissance theatre studio (2014); an Exhibition at BNP with published research; an International Colloquium at the FCG; a staged reading of Comedia Aulegrafia (2015); and the edition of a monograph published by the University of Extremadura in 2018. She is also responsible for the coordination of CLÁSSICOS EM CENA, staged readings, from 2016 to the present. For these initiatives funding was raised from the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, a bank and a private company, demonstrating independence and national and international recognition. Silvina Pereira also designed the LUSITÂNIA TEATRAL program for the Teatro Romano de Lisboa with the shows: A Paz by Aristophanes (2016) and O Misantropo by Menander (2017) as well as the organization of academic seminars, showing the relationship between classical Portuguese dramaturgy and its Greco-Latin counterpart.
