Guilherme Canhão holds a graduation in History (2014) and a Master's degree in Documentation and Information Sciences (2020) at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, with a thesis regarding an analysis model for the binding structure of the Foral charters assigned by King Manuel I, developed under the supervision of Prof. Carlos Guardado da Silva, and which obtained the highest mark after its public defense. This research has resulted in the book «Encadernação dos Forais Manuelinos. Modelo de Análise. Foral de Monte Agraço (1518)» (Lisbon, Colibri, 2021), prefaced by Prof. Aires Nascimento, and published in the collection CI – Ciência da Informação (Information Science). In 2022, he won the Merit Scholarship 2019-2020, awarded by DGES – Direcção- Geral do Ensino Superior. In parallel with his academic career, he completed a professional internship at the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda, worked at EDP – Energias de Portugal within the scope of information and knowledge management, and currently works in the library of the Católica Medical School. His current research focuses on the exploration of new approaches to the study of the book as an artefact, particularly its binding, and on the recording, representation, and communication of its structural aspects. He’s currently working on a set of research papers within this line of research, from which he intends to start his PhD thesis.

Interests: Information science; codicology; bookbinding; digital humanities.
