L. S. Ascensão de Macedo holds a PhD in Information Science awarded by the University of Coimbra with a thesis on contested archival heritage in a subnational context, a Master in Documentation and Information Sciences – Archives (University of Lisbon), a Specialization in Documentation Sciences – Archives (eadem) and a degree in Classical Studies, with a specialization in teacher training (eadem). Currently, he is public servant at the Regional Government of Madeira. He is an executive member of the Expert Group on Shared Archival Heritage at the International Council on Archives and a member of the ISKO (International Society for Knowledge Organization) - Iberian Chapter. As a researcher, he collaborates with the Centre for 20th Century Interdisciplinary Studies – CEIS20 (University of Coimbra). His main research areas focuses on contested archival heritage and ancient archival traditions.

Interests: Contested Cultural Heritage; Ancient Archival Traditions; Archival Science; Records Management; Digital Humanities; Knowledge Organization; Islands Studies.
